EDDA Program

The Expanded Dental Duty Assistant (EDDA) certification is the next step for dental assistants who want to expand their capabilities to perform expanded duty dental assisting functions as specified by Louisiana law.


Quick Facts About the Course

- After students register, they will receive an email confirmation which will include a link to fill out an informational form. Please do so immediately.
-A link to the recorded course and supplemental information will be emailed out to all attendees no later than 2 weeks prior to the start of the course.
- This course is self-paced which means it is your responsibility to watch the course videos and lectures on your own time before the testing date.
- It will take approximately 12 hours to complete the entire course. You are responsible for doing this on your own time.
- This self-paced course will prepare you for the multiple-choice test scheduled for Thursday (50 questions) and the hands-on participation test that will be after your Saturday in-person portion of the course.
- A passing score on your multiple choice test is 70%.
- Students must register at least 1.5 weeks in advance of the start date of the course in order to complete the entire course.

Course Agenda

The schedule for testing and your clinical, hands-on portion is below.

Thursday

Multiple choice test 10 a.m.-11:30a.m. The test should take about an hour to complete. You must sign into ZOOM using a computer or tablet that has video capabilities to be monitored during the test. The test link will be sent inside the chat box in ZOOM and via email at 10am. You will see your test score once you submit your test.

Friday

Multiple Choice test retake. If you do not pass the test on Thursday, this will be your last opportunity to retake. The same ZOOM rules apply. Those who pass the test on Thursday do not need to participate again on Friday.

Saturday

Hands-on instruction and hands-on testing. See location based on date. You will be assigned to attend either the morning or afternoon session. We will send you your group time assignment 2 weeks before the event. You are responsible for showing up on time and completing this hands-on, clinical portion of the course. You will complete a check-list for instructors and demonstration your skills, if you get a passing score on all sections, you will have successfully completed your EDDA course and are eligible to get your EDDA certificate from the La State Board of Dentistry. What is EDDA Dental Certification?

EDDA (Expanded Duty Dental Assistant) certification is the “next step” for dental assistants who want to expand their capabilities in dental practice. EDDA certification is designed to provide dental assistants with the knowledge and skills they need to perform expanded duty dental assisting functions as specified by Louisiana law.

EDDA Course Description

The expanded duty dental assistant (EDDA) course is the “next step” for assistants who want to expand their capabilities in the dental practice. This course is designed to provide dental assistants with the knowledge and skills they need to perform expanded duty dental assisting functions as specified by Louisiana law. Hands-on exercises will be performed in the laboratory to reinforce the material presented in the lectures (whether online or in person or a combination). Each participant will be given and must pass a post-course examination to determine their competency.

EDDA Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course and examination and submitting a post-course evaluation, participants will receive a verification of participation letter/certificate.

  • Placement of pit and fissure sealants

How do I receive my EDDA Certification?

You will need to submit the following four documents to the Louisiana State Board of Dentistry (LSBD) to receive your EDDA Certification.

  1. Verification of Participation Letter for successfully completing a certified EDDA Training Course (LDA will provide that to you following the competition of your course with us)
  2. The EDDA Application for Certification which can be found on the Louisiana State Board of Dentistry website.
  3. Proof of successfully completing a Louisiana State Board of Dentistry-approved Radiology course (Take LDA's Radiology Course Here)
  4.  A copy of a current CPR certification card

You will need to submit all four documents noted above along with your required application fee to the Louisiana State Board of Dentistry. DO NOT SUBMIT THESE DOCUMENTS TO THE LOUISIANA DENTAL ASSOCIATION. The Louisiana State Board of Dentistry is the certifying agency for EDDA in Louisiana.

After you have submitted a complete application form along with the required documents and fees to the LSBD, it could take several weeks for you to receive your EDDA certificate by mail.

Cancellation Policy

Cancel 30+ days in advance:

Refund requests for registration will be granted a full refund, less a $30 processing fee. The request must be received via email 30 days prior to the EDDA course start date.

Cancellation Requests between Early Registration Deadline and the day before your meeting begins
Transfer registration to a co-worker or to another date (under same dentist)- $25

Cancel 29-15 days in advance:

Refund requests for registration fees will be granted a 50% refund less a $30 processing fee. The request must be received via email 29-15 days prior to the EDDA course start date.
Transfer registration to a co-worker or to another date (under same dentist)- $75

Cancel 14-0 days in advance:

No cancellation requests or refund requests will be accepted or granted 14 days or less in advance of the start date of the EDDA course. This includes cancellations due to illness, late arrivals, weather, parking difficulties or any other reasons.

Transfer registration to a co-worker or to another date (under same dentist)- $100

Exceptions will not apply.

Cancellation request emails should be sent to jeanne@ladental.org. Cancellations will not be processed until we receive your written email confirmation. There will be no cancellations taken over the phone.

Important things to note before registering

WE DO NOT ACCEPT PARTIAL PAYMENTS. If you want to register for the course, full payment must be given at the time of registration. 

Your registration price is based on the dentist you work for- if they are LDA members or non-members. We will ask on the registration the dentists' name and we will verify membership.  
If you do not currently work at a dental office, please let us know.

  1. Important note before beginning your registration: If your dentist is already logged into the LDA website, log out of their account before you begin this process, otherwise you will register your dentist for the EDDA course instead of the assistant.
